The Open Learning Centre announces dis29500.org, an open collaborative project to classify comments on the proposed international standard based on OOXML.

Farnham, England 26/11/07. The Open Learning Centre launches dis29500.org, a website containing the text of the 3489 comments submitted by national bodies in relation to the proposed ISO standard based on the Microsoft Office 2007 document file format.

One Laptop Per Child at BETT 2008

The Open Learning Centre is proud to present the OLPC XO laptop to visitors to the BETT 2008 technology in education show.

Alan Lord, one of the co-founders of The Open Learning Centre said: “The OLPC XO laptop is a wonderful piece of hardware, and coupled with it's powerful Open Source software we believe it will transform education in the developing world. The whole laptop from the carrying handle to the sugar user interface has been designed around the child. We have been inundated with visitors to the stand all day, everyone wants to see it, touch it, play with it.”

According to Alan Bell, the other co-founder of The Open Learning Centre: “I bought an XO laptop for my children though the Give One Get One program that ran for a limited time in December last year. Through this scheme two laptops are purchased, but one goes as a charitable donation to a school in a developing country.”
